Also just read the article on therapy-speak and there's so much I want to highlight and put some exclamation points next to! I've never been to therapy but reading those people's experiences makes me so wary of what is taught to people in that kind of therapy. Boundaries are healthy and important, of course, but it seems like "therapy-speak" can be incredibly selfish and hurtful. God has much better advice in His Word for how to have good relationships with people and it always starts with being selfless, kind and humble. Anyway those are just initial thoughts! I felt compelled to share after reading such an interesting article!
Glad to you read it and thanks for sharing! I was fascinated. Like boundaries are healthy for relationships, and the Bible emphasises the importance of these. I think it demonstrates that if the heart is still inclined to selfishness and desiring freedom and independence at all costs, we can co-opt any language into selfishness, no matter how kind the original terms were designed to be.
Your opening paragraph (so funny!!), your octopus imagery and then "he children swirl like little fish in my wake, lying on the floor, sitting on the counter scooping seeds out of pumpkins, taking single bites out of peaches and discarding them, or opening both the pantry and fridge doors at the same time"---its a continuation of beautiful imagery, I can see it and relate to it and it makes me smile! I loved getting this glimpse into your life! You wrote it beautifully! Also, I loved that book by Tim Challies about devoted mothers---I loaned it to a friend but I think I need to get another and re-read. It was so inspiring me to me as a boy mom!
Awww thank you so much Sara!! I was so encouraged by that book too - especially to pray for them every day. Convicting but not guilting. I’ve got two boys (2.5 and 5) how many do you have? 💛
The neverending laundry...I so empathize! I just went to Jackie Hill Perry's Glory Conference this weekend and it was straight fire. Still haven't read Gay Girl, Good God but it's on my list. Winter recipes -- Eating Bird Food (blog) has a wonderful baked oatmeal recipe we love. So many ways to customize flavor AND not too dry. 2 big wins in my book!
Hahaha yep. Always the laundry! Thanks for the baked oatmeal recipe. I need quick breakfasts in winter but I’m tempted to skip them if they’re not warm haha so maybe the baked oatmeal is the way 😍😍
Bec, your writing makes me want to be your best friend. Seriously, that first line gets me every time I read it. Please, one day when I come to Australia, take me through an ordinary day in your life. I want to meet your neighbors, and I promise to help with the laundry.
Oh Bec, even though I’ve already read this a few times, it still brought a smile to my face this morning!
Thanks friend!! 💛
Loved this and love the description of your Little Shed 💛 sounds so Aussie ✨
