Thank you for sharing this. It's hard to even know what response is appropriate for such a heartrending and well-written story... It goes hand in hand with a memoir I just read called "The Many Lives of Mama Love" by Laura Love Hardin. I would highly recommend.

Thanks Sara! The saddest thing about it is the fact it sticks out for me is because it was my first day as duty officer and I wrote notes about it in my journal. But it’s a pretty common interaction for child protection/corrections role and definitely not unusual.
