I actually don't mind washing the dishes. Granted, we have a dishwasher (I grew up without one, and my parents still don't have one), but it's satisfying to get the kitchen wiped down and cleaned for the evening.

It’s so satisfying!! 🙌🏼

This was a delight!’j laughed about the crockpot.

For fun, I like to write (duh), pick book club books (Ann Patchett’s newest essay collection is divine!), and ride my peloton. Getting stronger, especially after having back surgery last year has been incredible. I did 40 pushups in a workout last week! I feel so proud of what my body can do.

Hahahah yes early 20s me was a vibe. A chaos vibe. Love that you’re getting stronger and can ride so far!! You inspire me! I have hypermobility and now tendonitis. I need to get back to swimming when Tom is bigger because my hips and knees and ankles ache 🙈

Bec, I loved this so much! I love the swapping and getting things from different olaces. I feel that same nostalgia. I bake my own bread (albeit in a bread maker and it's not sourdough 😉), we have chickens too and I absolutely LOVE having fresh eggs on hand, my aunty has bees so I get her honey, my mum and some friends love to garden and this winter i even grew my own fennel, I make my own vegetable stock and chicken stock, I like to make as much baking and sauces etc from scratch (although not always successfully - I tried to make mayo the "easy" way one day and it was an absolute disaster, and I was PMSing so I haven't tried since 😅). Please tell me how to make my own passata and (you can DM me this) please tell me where you get your massive load of tomatoes from?? So out of all my chores, I think I'm with you, food related chores are fun, or it would be gardening.

Thanks Kym!! Very cool. Love that you do bread and eggs! I do stocks and sauces too. I’ve previously done bread but I do have schemes for my friend to teach me sourdough when Tom is older. I get the boxes from Town and Country.

Passata is basically slowly cooking down the tomatoes with some salt until it’s sauce then blending it a bit to get rid of the skins. The canning requires a vacola but I’m sure you could find some methods online to do with different jars. There’s a heap of preserving workshops around at Roleystone Fanily centre and the libraries lately 🙌🏼

There's something so yum about sourdough!! And so simple but just takes a long time to go from starter and flour to bread 😂 I'm not sure I'm that patient 😅

Oh I'll have to look that up! I use so much passata so to make my own and use up all the jars I can't throw away would be so handy!

Hahahah I’m not particularly patient either. But I got her to explain how she fits all the moving parts into her day… It’s supposed to be easier than regular bread 🤞🏼

I've heard the same! Well I wish you all the best on your sourdough journey when you decide to embark 🫡

Bec, this came together so well! I loved all the stories of how you’ve swapped, sourced and made food. This was beautiful 💚 Living in the cold north we are now entering the season where allll our produce is outsourced, and I’m sad to see the farmers markets go. Also, an olive tree in my yard would be magical!

Awww thanks, friend! Thanks for making it better!! We are just coming into summer, so I bought myself an old lady trolley to go to the farmers market 👩‍🌾

My goodness I love this post!! So much beautiful imagery here… made me want to get my hands to work in the kitchen!! (Which is saying a lot considering my kids have been eating a scary amount of Uncrustables lately.) I adored this line: “Of course it’s quicker and easier to buy pickles and passata at the shop, but there is more to life than quick and easy.” Indeed there is ❤️

Awww thank you so much!! My children also adore food from a packet hahahah but glad to hear it makes you want to get in the kitchen 😘😘
