I too loved The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry and Adorning the Dark…. Definitely two of my fav non fiction books. Also- bagels!! I just made everything bagels with my sourdough starter and it was heavenly! Used the recipe by Clever Carrot!

Oooooh! Sourdough bagels sound fun! Thanks for the rec. My friend Stacey makes sourdough bread and said she would teach me. Yum!

That grazing table looks amazing and yes I should learn to make my own dips. Also the actual table is absolutely stunning!! Jarrah? 😍

I also use an app to lock myself out of apps and it is such a life saver/time saver for me. I do not have the will power without it.

We are eating easy dinners that involve lots of salad or raw cut veggies. Also our baking rotation is choc chip oat cookies, chocolate muffins, choc chips banana muffins,... Basically anything with a choc chip in it 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️

It is a jarrah table! It is made from a jarrah burl. My father in law made it for us as a wedding present.

I feel the same about Freedom. After reading Stolen Focus I realise it is not a willpower issue. They are designed to be addictive!

Love the food recs. I am 100% with you!

The grazing table with cocktails looks amazing!

I would add fancy hoops to the list of things that brighten and make an outfit feel complete immediately or a set especially in this heatwave

I want fancy hoops!! Love this tip! But the baby is in the grabby-grab phase. I got my ears re-pierced with (fake) diamond studs and I am scheming for more ear piercings. I hear it's called earscaping haha I am also using bright coral lip crayon because I am so bored I want to cut all my hair off again but the baby will grab it. So: piercings and lipstick

I need a spring grazing table!!!

Doooooo it! It made me so happy!

1. Added Stolen Focus to Libby app immediately.

2. The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry remains as one of my top self help books.

3. I, too, didn’t find The Plan all that helpful.

4. Add cute dangle earrings to the fancy sweatpants attire and you’ll basically be in cocktail attire.

Mua ha ha cocktail attire here I come! (Oh, wait, I have a grabby 7 month old. No dangle. But I did just get my ears re-pierced. I am scheming for more ear piercing and bright lipsticks to get around this).

These are very good ideas 😉

Oooooh I’ve never heard of freedom and I’m so curious to learn more! How are you using it?

Expand full comment

Oh my goodness you will love it! You can put it across all your devices. I am using it on a recurring schedule. I started with a block of four hours (8am-12pm) every morning (just WhatsApp, Amazon etc) and deleted internet and email from my phone. It just gets me into my day and then I check everything around midday. It makes it exciting, like when you used to wait for dial up internet haha

In the last few weeks I've tried extending it on Sabbath until 5pm, which makes me twitch, but is worth it. I was shocked how frustrating it is to me. But you can pick whatever apps you don't want to use, keep what is helpful, and set your own recurring schedules. I love it. The Anxious Generation and Stolen Focus made me feel better that it is not purely a willpower issue but deliberate design.

Currently reading Walking on Water by Madeliene L'Engle with almost painstaking slowness. But very good. And anxiously awaiting a free weekend to binge Onyx Storm.

Currently cooking Fallon Danae's meatloaf recipe with instant pot mashed potatoes and it's SO GOOD. Meatloaf is my husband's favorite, and I've crashed and burned on several recipes in the 2 1/2 years we've been married. But this one is a winner.

Currently reassessing my caffeine intake and noticing that it works wonders (and terrors) on my mood, so cutting it back to 8oz pours instead of 10oz. And finding ways to work in more walks, like on the bike path around my school during lunch breaks. So my students can yell and wave from the other side of the fence. Very relaxing stuff.

Thanks for reading! My goodness - I also read Walking on Water painstakingly slow! I didn't love it as much as I thought I would, although she did have some good things to say.

I'm in Australia and have never, ever made meatloaf. I've never even tried it! But it seems to be really popular in the US! Love the walking!! I love coffee and it pains me to cut it back. But two double shots in one morning is probably enough for me.
