Summer starts by exploding
into purple. Jacaranda heraldsย
its arrival by casting delicateย
purple flowers on the path.ย ย
Even clouds have escaped the heat
of a bleached sky. The dregsย
are white paint on a brush scraped
across the blue. The children scale
the mulberry tree, with deep royalย
purple-stained faces and handsย
and shirts. Lavender stalks sway
in the breeze, unperturbed byย
the bees. Purple wisteria petalsย
perfume the patio as we clink our gin
and tonics, dotted with frozenย
blueberries. Summer is here.ย
Those who have eyes to seeย
nature proclaiming the comingย
of the Kingโs birthday, let them see.ย
